Inspired
One of the things I love most about coaching is the back and forth aspect. I work together with parents. I might say something that inspires them, and I’m also inspired by what they tell me. I was talking with a client about self-care, and she mentioned that she really likes her exercise bike. She loves the high energy of the workouts, and gets a lot out of it in 30 minutes. I told her I wished I loved working out as much as she did.
She got me thinking. I didn’t want a fancy bike with an intense workout, but I’d love to do something besides walk, which I do every day. I needed something low impact. Apparently, I’ve been thinking about getting an indoor bike for seven years. How do I know that? Well, I checked my messages on Facebook, and it turns out I had messaged my former personal trainer back then for recommendations for a bike. I never followed through.
But my client motivated me. First, I posted an ISO exercise bike on my Buy Nothing group to see if I could get one for free. No such luck. Next, I went to Facebook Marketplace, and there was a bike for sale, brand new in the box, for $85 (retail $181). It was available, I got it, and my husband set it up in no time. It’s not fancy, and I don’t think there’s an app that goes with it for workouts.
I got back to my trainer (after seven years, jeez!) and asked him how to start. He gave me a plan. Guess what I did this morning? I rode my new bike for 13 minutes! No more excuses. I have my podcasts, I have my bike, I have a new exercise plan for the new year! This is all thanks to my client, who inspired me. What have you been inspired to do lately?
